About brand
The Al Najjar family has been making authentic Aleppo Soap since 1895 in keeping with ancestral artisanal know-how. Aleppo Soap was the first hard soap and has been manufactured for centuries. It is the ancestor of Marseille soap. This know-how is passed down from generation to generation in the Al Najjar family’s soap factory in the city of Aleppo in the North of Syria.
Each year from late November to late March, production of the world’s first hard soap starts over again following an unchanged process. The soaps then dry for at least nine months. During this period, the soaps oxydize on the surface and take on a yellow/beige color, whilst the heart of the soap retains the green color of the oils that make it.
Najel’s Aleppo Soap is made from olive oil and bay laurel oil. Saponified olive oil is a powerful cleanser which nourishes, protects and softens skin. Bay laurel oil is known for its disinfectant and regenerative properties. The higher its concentration, the more the soap soothes irritated or problem skin (psoriasis, eczema, acne, dermatosis).
